MEET JACQUI
Hello! I’m Jacqui. I’ve been teaching for about 5 years now. 4 of those years were in Japan. I taught at Coco Juku in Kawasaki for about 3 years and at Daito Gakuen in Chitose Funabashi for about 1 year. I loved working in Japan. It was a great experience.
I also taught children at their home for about 2 months in Madrid, Spain which was very rewarding.
こんにちは!私はJacquiです。英語を教え始めて5年になります。そのうちの4年間は日本にいました。川崎にあるCOCO塾で約3年、船橋にある大東学園で約1年英語を教えていました。日本で仕事をするのはとても楽しかったです。とてもいい経験でした。
また、スペインのマドリードでも家庭教師で子供たちに教えていました。こちらもとてもやりがいのある仕事でした。
Forget katakana and never assume that words have the same meaning and pronunciation in English. Think in English not Japanese!
カタカナを忘れ、英語と日本語が同じ意味と発音をしているという考えを改めてみましょう!
Start writing a daily diary which expresses your personal opinions on things as well as talking about your daily life. The more you write, the more you’ll know what to talk about when having a conversation with others.
普段の生活で表現しているように、物事に関する自分の考えを日記に書き始めてみましょう。書けば書くほど、皆と話をする時何について話せるかもっと分かっていけるでしょう。
Start to watch comedy shows such as Friends. Watch a 30 minute episode 3 times. First with English subtitles next with Japanese subtitles and lastly back to English subtitles. Also by watching comedy shows, it introduces our types of humour which can be difficult for some Japanese people at first.
フレンズのようなコメディ番組を見始めてみましょう。1話30分の話を3回見てみましょう。まず英語の字幕付き、続いて日本語字幕、最後にもう一度英語字幕で見てみましょう。またコメディ番組を見ることによって、最初は日本人にとって難しい私たちの使うユーモアを感じることもできます。
It’s important for you to understand that it’s totally fine to make mistakes, especially when we have conversations.
I feel this is why many Japanese have issues with speaking as they are afraid to make mistakes and also they aren’t used to expressing very honest, personal opinions so often.
生徒に皆さんにとって大事なのは、特に会話をしているとき間違いをしても全然問題がないということを理解することです。なので、多くの日本人の生徒が間違いを恐れスピーキングに苦手意識を持ってしまい、正直に自分の意見を表現することができないと私は感じてます。
